The Window Widgets for Brushed Metal seem to be improved and it looks like Apple will include it in 10.2.4.

Here's a screenshot of it from http://www.apple.com/ical

The line around Aqua Widgets is now 1.5 pixel width rather than 0.6 we have now.

I think this one is much, much better!

It's already included in 10.2.3. Look at iChat. And it's not improved in my opinion. It looks really ugly. I don't like Brushed Metal, and it getting even worse as time goes on...

I think that you can thank image compression for that.

I think what he's saying is that the latest incarnation of the brushed metal/sunken widgets (iCal) is different than the 10.2.3 implementation found in iChat etc.

I don't think I would have noticed the difference without seeing this. I like the sunken look for the brushed apps, it makes sense.

pat++: He is saying that there is a slight difference from the sunken widgets that came with 10.2.3.

No no, that is not what I'm talking about. I already know that it is in 10.2.3 but in that screenshot, it seem to be different from the one we have in 10.2.3

Hmmm... Maybe my eyes are not good enough...
but I don't see any difference with the old version of iCal running on 10.2.3...
I put my iCal window side by side with the screenshot, and it looks the same for me....

edit : finally noticed a slight difference... are you talking about the white line beeing a bit thicker?

My question is the relationship with 10.2.4? Where's that stated?

I think it's just an assumption, since all the iApps need to be consistant.

The new one have more than one line around the widget. It is definitely not jpeg compression because I've analyzed the amount of white in that screenshot and it is different from current one, that's for sure.

KidRed, I don't know anything about 10.2.4 but it seem that screenshot is a hint of what will be coming.

Hate to burst your bubble but iCal came out today and it uses the same metal Aqua resources as any other metal app. The good news is if you are using a theme it will be consistant!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

You didn't burst any bubbles. I'm not talking about iCal 1.0.1. I'm talking about the screenshot that I saw in http://www.apple.com/ical

I've gotta concur with the "it's a result of image compression artifacts" camp. If we had zero-loss TIFFs to compare, I'd be less skeptical.

I thought all the images that Apple used for these promo shots were mock-ups anyway?

Nope, all of the images that is for Press Release or Print is mock-ups. They were made at larger size so they will print out perfect.

But you may be right though.

Looks the same to me. That damn white line on the bottom looks horrid.... still.

I think it is because the little white line is 'too white'. If it was slightly darker it wouldn't be as jarring.

That little white line does seem to catch the eye the wrong way.

I second Chris. The white line looks like Apple wouldn't know what they are doing and it destroys the apparent new look somehow...
