i'm not sure if this belongs in the Mac Games forum or this one, i just assumed more exposure here.

When i had my first power mac (Performa 6116), it came bundled with a couple of games (Eric's Solitaire Sampler, Spectre Challenger, Spin Doctor).

Granted, these games were not great by any standards, but they were games. Yes, children love music and would love to make movies and burn dvd's, but they still love games. I believe the only game that came bundled with my iMac running 10.1.3 was chess and bugdom.

Would it be too much to ask for a suite of games to go along with OS X also? Solitaire is a given, it should be there. Perhaps an advanced card came of sorts. It allows you to play several different card games. I know many other favorites would be appreciated. Snood, for example is quite popular. Some type of Othello/Reversi game would be great.

I'm not recommending another MSN Games network but made by Apple, but something would be great. I'd hate for a games network, we know it would require a .Mac membership.

Throw some games into OS X Apple, maybe some more utilities. My Performa 6116 also came with American Heritage Dictionary. This great app was so useful in junior high school and senior high school. Best of all, unlike current dictionary apps, it did not require internet access to be functional.

I'm hopeful, does anyone else feel this may be a possibility in the future?

Yeah...both iMacs my sister has owned came with some games. I agree that there should be a solitair or hearts game at the very least...for everyone...not just iMac/eMac owners.

Don't forget Chess.

And if you have .Mac, then you get a couple of games free, and discounts on a couple more.

Ugh. Nasty games. Nanosaur just "greys" out scenes that are far away. They do supply chess. It would be nice if they did a few others, like backgammon and so forth. A version of Tetris and so forth wouldn't be bad either. It wouldn't take much.

They would have to license Tetris, so I don't think we'll see that one..

Apple supplies Chess because all they have to write is a front-end; the actual engine is just the GNU Chess program (which is a very good chess program, actually). Annd the front-end is a straight port from the NeXTStep version, so they basically get it for free. They might consider bundling Goban, though (an Open-Source frontend to GNU Go).

But yeah; a set of small, classic games would be nice. No need to bundle blockbusters; just do classics. I think GNU also has a Backgammon engine which Apple could make a very nice frontend for as well. Slow-paced, cerebral types of games. Maybe even a Minesweeper clone.

Whats amazing is how often they get burned for not having Solitare & Minesweeper.

"the mac sucks, it dosen't have solitare", I hear it all the time.

People are too stupid/lazy to go and get software they want, M$ has proven this many a time.

Have you actually played it!?

It's evil. It cheats, often. Valid moves are not recognized and the computer can do illegal moves; a pawn that, after already being moved, can move two spaces up and take out another piece - wth? I've seen it several times.

There are great chess programs for OSX but the builtin one does not qualify.

For some classic games or variations thereof head on over to this site. I like the twists they added to the tetris clone - we just need a native OSX version now.

There's MacSolitaire , Allgood Solitaire, Burning Monkey Solitaire, Solitaire Till Dawn, and dozens of chess and minesweeper games.

Do you need everything spoonfeeded by Apple?
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.
