Reformatted Drive - Recover Files?

I recently reformatted the HD on my 1GHZ PowerBook (OSX). Before doing so, I backed up important files to my G4 500 Tower (OS9).

Unfortunately, I am now missing an important folder. Somehwere along the way I must have either overlooked this folder when I was backing up or later deleted it from the tower.

Anyway, I understand that Norton Utilities might be able to retreive the files off of my Tower if they were there at some point. However, if they were never transferred to the tower and were only on the PB, can Norton recover files on a drive that was subsequently initialized? Any other options? Disk Warrior?

Help! Thanks.
James

Your only chance is with norton or DW, but I think you're screwed.

i had "some" success playing with norton recovering files from an initialised drive.
It can look for file structures similar to an mp3 or jpeg etc and make a stab at creating a whole file from found data, but it's hit and miss and often it "finds" a 5 gigabyte mp3 or something.
If it's text you're looking for then you've got a better chance, I think it can search for text strings, and to be fair norton recovered all my old excel account files intact. This was with version 6 of norton, the OSX version found almost nothing.

Well, it was mostly graphics files (Photoshop, Illustrator, JPG's etc). I suppose that makes chances of recovery even slimmer? Crap.

How about recovering the files from my non-reformatted G4 tower? Again, the files MAY have been copied there at some point. Of course, if that's where they were, then I managed to delete them. But this drive was not reformatted. What are my chances there? BTW, I don't currently have Norton or DW and so didn't have any "FileSaver" type option going.

Norton *may* find it. The sooner you can try the better. The longer you wait the greater the odds that a page out or swap file will write over the deleted data.
