how to boot into os 9?

i know i hold down option when rebooting, but then I don't know how to change the OS. I tried several times but could not figure out how to switch to 9?? sorry for all the simple questions, I'm still learning.

if X and 9 are on different partitions, then you can use the option-boot thing; the OS's should be shown as icons, just click on the one you want using the mouse, then click on the arrow.

if they are on the same partition, you'll have to boot into X first, then go to system preferences-->startup disk-->and pick OS 9, save , and reboot.
