My parents just bought an eMac, and I would like to set them up on the new machine (jaguar) with only one user account, however is there a way to make multiple users with mail?
Any help is appreciated.

Do you mean multiple email accounts under a single login, or multiple logins?

If multiple logins, use the Accounts Preferences to create separate accounts for each person. They'll then automatically get their own preferences for mail, etc.

If you want to maintain a single login, use Mail.app's preferences -> Accounts tab to create multiple email accounts.
Note that with this approach, all you get is a pop-up menu in new email messages which allows you to choose which email address the message should be sent from. You can use message filters to sort incoming messages into separate folders, but there's no element of security to prevent different users reading each other's mail.

I set this up as separate accounts for my parents and let the machine boot to the login panel rather than automatically logging on as any one user. This gives them the advantage that they have their own set of bookmarks and chat setup.

Under OS 9 I had set them up with a single login and a mail client (Eudora) that checked both accounts.

They prefer the OS X setup.

Thanks for the replies. I had wanted to do a single log-in, but it sounds like seperate accounts is the way to go.
Is there a way to share the iPhoto/iTunes libraries over the accounts?

Not currently, which is a real flaw in the way both apps operate. On my home Mac, I pointed iTunes to a subfolder in the Shared folder, and made a symlink to a shared iPhoto lib in the same place (since iPhoto can't even have its library pointed elswhere as a preference). The trick is to fix permissions. You can achieve this by editing /etc/ttys and adding a LoginHook (search developer.apple.com for details) but that ain't the Mac your Grandma used to use.

I'll bet the next version of iTunes/iPhoto will be able to share songs. I also did the symbolic link, but I changed it back since I am expecting an update to the software.

Thanks for the good advice you too. I am setting them up on Monday, so I will wait until Tuesday to mess with partitions.
Thanks again.
