Whenever someone puts in the wrong password, the login.app quits and the user is punted in to the BSD style login screen. I don't mind it, but it confuses my parents badly. I've tried reinstalling the whole system, to no avail. Is this a problem in the firmware? OS X.2.3? Why would the login.app quit after the first failed login attempt? I've tried turning on password hints, no effect.

I reformatted the hard drive, and reinstalled X.2 and all the Apple utilities, so I don't know what it could be.

It turns out that it's a crash, here's the log (in case someone can find a clue there):

Date/Time: 2003-01-03 00:32:15 -0700
OS Version: 10.2.3 (Build 6G30)

Command: SecurityAgent
PID: 605

I am seeing the same thing. A dump into the console upon bad password or username entry.

Furthermore, every time I log in successfully as my username, SecurityAgent crashes. I know because Console.app launches immediately to tell me so, as my Desktop and Dock are appearing.

When I log in as either of the other 2 usernames on my system, the above crash does not occur.

Run the crash log through Gul Banana's app and see what it tells you. In some cases it can point you in the right direction or even tell you exactly what is happening.

RCR, I'm seeing the exact same thing. I didn't do anything about it thinking that it might correct itself with the OS X update - it didn't.

I haven't been able to track down the problem to anything in-particular.

Now running 10.2.5, and the problem persists.

Anyone else still seeing this, or has anyone pinpointed a cause?
