When I click on Go->Connect_To_Server in the finder i can type in an ftp address.

ftp://www.myftpserver.com

i can also type in ftp://usernamesswd@www.myftpserver.com

in previous version the drive that was mounted was read only.

does anyone know if this is fixed?

Nope, it's still the same. I don't think it's a bug, just a lack of usability.

By "lack of usability" do you mean that it is read-only by design?

If this is the case why would I ever not want the ability to write to an ftp server if i have a password?

My guess is that write capability is not implemented *YET*.
We'll probably see this in 10.3... hopefully.
