Hi,
I just got 10.2 for free (my mom is a principle )
Anyway, I want to install it on my imac rev A and my HD is partitioned into 4 sections (3,3,10,20 gigs). I run 9.2 right now and the partitions are pretty much full, so I really don't want to do a clean install.
Is there anything specific I should watch out for or do before I hit the install button? For instance, can i install osx onto any partition? or does it have to be installed to a specific place?
Any other things to watch out for would be appreciated too.
Oh and I know Jaguar is going to be slow on my bondi baby, but its the only mac I have at the moment. If someone could suggest what to tweak to speed it up as much as possible that would be great.
Thanks!

You can install OS X only on the first two partitions due to your iMac's 8 GB limit.
Of the two partitions, it would be a tight squeeze on either as Apple recommends installing 10.2 on a partition with at least 3 GB free. It would probably be best to pick one of the 3 GB partitions, back everything up, wipe the partition (not the drive), and install 9.2 and then 10.2 on it.
As far as speeding up OS X, the more RAM you have, the better.

If your mom is a principle, what sort of norm or standard are you?

I installed OS X 10.2 on a 2001 iBook 500 G3 (with 640 GB ram) a few weeks ago. One thing that seemed to make it a little less balky was setting "colors" to "thousands" instead of "millions." The resolution difference is barely noticeable most of the time -- still pretty damn clear.
It's definitely less snappy than OS 9. But, like others have reported, it's very stable and I'm getting used to the speed difference. Crash-free is definitely a plus.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread.
Does anybody else here have any experience with a Bondi iMac running Jaguar? I really want to upgrade mine. My parents refuse to buy a new computer, so I figure I can at least try to give them the stability and apps of X.
I'm thinking it might be usable if I max out the RAM. It's already got a big harddrive (the 4 gig crapped out on us years ago). Am I wrong. Is this a foolhardy attempt?
Any experiences?
Also, what do people think about Panther? Would that give any minimal improvements over Jaguar on my Bondi machine?

On an original iMac, Panther seems a lot faster than Jaguar because the menus are actually usable. Much much faster than in Jaguar.

I dragged my mom kicking and screaming into the 21st century by putting Jaguar on her rev. B iMac (384MB RAM, stock hard drive). Yes, it's slow, and no, I wouldn't want it as my only (or main) machine. But she hasn't complained about it yet. 90% of the time all she uses is Safari, Mail, MS Office, and Quicken.

Well, I just found out that I can put up to 512 Megs of RAM into the iMac, so it looks like X is gonna have to go on there.
Thanks for the comment on Panther, though. I think I'm gonna wait until Panther is out before I upgrade it. My family's got three Macs now, and we may get the family pack of Panther.
Thanks.

Make sure you update the firmware first or you may lose internal video. I updated my 500mhz iMac DV and lost internal video. Fortunately, it has external video, so I was able to run the firmware upgrade and fix it.
Doh! Didn't read the date on his post from January.
