ok, are you ready for the weirdest and stupidest bug ever found on osX?

i can't download games. seriously. everytime i try to download a big file, it stop at the middle and open stuffit and generates an error. it also do this randomly, sometimes the file stop downloading at 70MB sometimes at 85MB, but i never, ever have been able to download the file completly. and it's not only for
Return to Castle Wolfenstein, it's for all big games.. weird huh?

is there a solution to this very weird problem or should i go rent a playstation game and accept the fact that mac gaming is the biggest joke for all reasons in the computer world

where are you trying to download games from? It might be a problem with that application and not Mac os X.

Are you sure it's only games, or might it be all large downloads maybe?

Try downloading with something more reliable than Internet Explorer (it tends to stop large downloads in the middle and declares them finished).

Why not try using a program that doesn't have a time-limit feature for the unregistered version?

Is this really an actual problem, or are you just posting this to be obnoxious?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

What are you using besides Transmit to download these games? Imagine that, a time limited trial that quits after 10 minutes and you say it doesn't work.
I just downloaded the Developer Tools from Apple at just over 300mb without a problem. It is the largest download I have ever done.

It's not a game, is it?

Maybe that's why they removed that helicopter game demo from the developer tools.

Maybe you're the stupidest OS X user in the world, that's why...
You need to understand that no OS can make a difference between a game, a mail app, an audio file... It just sees a bunch of 0s and 1s as it downloadsthem to disk.
That means that the fact you haven't been able to download (full ? demos ?) games lately has NOTHING to do with the current state of mac gaming.
It could be a problem with the server you download from (maybe you could give us the adresses so we try for ourselves), the files could be damaged, etc...

No, but since one can make a game with them, I thought there might have been some special invisible resource file contained in it. It must have some special compiled compressed signature that the browsers & ftp apps all see while downloading and immediately crash or stop.

Agreed. Give the guy a break.

I don't doubt this problem is network-related, and transient.

Being international, he has to face all kinds of internet issues that US-centric users never have to deal with.

Transatlantic and, especially, trans-pacific links are notoriously bad. Round-trip times to a good server network in Taiwan, for example, can exceed 700ms, and that's in addition to the last-mile/dialup link to the end user.

Trust me, as global as the internet might seem, it's a different world outside of the US.

So this was supposed to read "and by the way, no i'm not stupid, and i'm not from USA"?
As it reads, it's a reason for not being stupid....

but i believe he meant that english was not his first language therefore some might have made judgements thinking he was from the US.

it might be what you said, but you shouldn't jump to conclutions.
