Hi!

I'm trying to setup a replacement iTools server for a small office environment as described here: http://www.drijf.net/dototto/index.html

However... I'm having trouble in getting the MacOS X boxes to recognise www.mac.com and idisk.mac.com as a different IP to their real IPs. I have gone into /etc/hosts and entered:

192.168.0.11 www.mac.com idisk.mac.com

I've also restarted lookupd as mentioned on the Knowledge Base, to remove the cache, but it still doesn't work. I've gone to another machine, edited the hosts file and restarted, and it still resolves to the proper IPs. I've also tried going into NetInfo Manager and editing it there, but that made no difference.

Does anyone know how I can get a MacOS X (10.2.3) machine to resolve www.mac.com and idisk.mac.com to IPs different to their proper ones?

Thanks a lot!

hi. the /etc/hosts file under Mac OS X seems to be evaluated ONLY if you go into single user mode.
the right way should be putting your entries via netinfo. Probably the dns lookup is still evalueted before the netinfo entries..you could solve this setting up your own nameserver.
hope this can help

Forgot to answer about this: usually the etc /etc/hosts file is in this format
Code:
192.168.100.20 www.mydomain.com www 192.168.100.40 mail.mydomain.com mail
imho, anyway, you should setup your own nameserver
