How do you setup a FTP server in OSX?

I know you can enable FTP access through System Prefences / Sharing.

1. I want to add a user and/or a group (I also need to know how this is done.)
2. How would I limit directory access (jail them in the directory)

I would to do this without adding/installing third party applications. I am not opposed to installing Dev. Tools, I would though not like this as the only alternative.

Thanks,
voth

There are some great tutorials over at MacOSx.com, all you need to do is sign up for an account there. I'm pretty sure they go over the "jail" concept. I don't have my password handy so I can't link you directly, but try here for a start:

the way i did it was to use a ftpchroot file to jail a generic ftp user account. there are some tweaks that need to be made, look here

As for the first question, the built-in FTP server on OSX uses the same users and groups as OSX itself. Creating users and groups is done the same way.

As for the second, the ftpchroot file is your only option, I'm afraid. Apple does not include FTP server configuration software with OSX Client, though they do provide it with OSX Server.

Why are you so opposed to third-party software, by the way?
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!
