Had everything setup right with 10.2.2 but didnt listen to the old proverb, if it aint broke dont fix it. Well after installing 10.2.3 osx wont boot anymore. DId another clean install with OSX only, no 9. and again, it hangs. WTF? Me thinks i will be using 10.2.2 for some time since i use my mac as a server and cant afford hickups like this.

ANyone have a solution to this mess?

The only time I had trouble with an upgrade was 10.2.1; wouldn't boot after the restart so had to start from scratch. However, since then, before upgrading I repair disk permissions, then restart into single user mode and run fsck-y, then reboot and perform the upgrade. This was from what others suggested in these forums.

I still poo my pants everytime my computer restarts after an upgrade, but it has been ok since I started doing the above. Have you tried repairing disk permissions, etc, even if it is a clean install?

No, you are not alone.

I've installed 10.2.3 on several machines, and all have been fine except my Pismo Powerbook. It will run fine for awhile, but it soon develops problems with sleeping, waking up from sleep and restarting. I've done two clean installs, so I know this is reproduceable.

So, for the time being, I will go back to 10.2.1 or 10.2.2 on the Powerbook.

Can you give us a little more information regarding your hardware? Have you removed any 3rd party USB devices, drives, RAM or anything not Apple hardware?
Where does it hang at?
Try starting up in Verbose mode and single user mode and run fsck -y.

I have had no problems with the update. Before upgrading, you should always repair permissions and fsck the drive. Then immediately after the upgrade (after it reboots itself), fsck the drive and repair permissions again. This goes a long way towards weeding out potential problems.

hmmm, what does fsck -y do? never heard of that. As for my hardware i have a dp 800 with 1.2 gigs of ram, 80 + 40 gig drives, a usb printer, mouse, keyboard (last two are obvious), a firewire analog to dv converter. Isub, and flat panel monitor. the 2 512 chips are not apple made and yeas i have had problems with these chips when i used to do system restores from the apple cds. however never had a problem when installing from scratch and when upgrading from 10.2 to 10.2.1 or 10.2.2 so this is v strange. i will def try that fsck -y thing.

Thanks for all the help and would really appreaciate any more info you can give me on what the command does and what you think might be happening.

I've been having problems with sleeping and kernel panics on my MDD, and 10.2.3 just seemed to make them worse. 10.2.3 is just fine on my TiBook though. Hrmmmm...

The volume and brightness keys on my TiBook don't work after installing it (twice!).
