I tried to use the hardware test cd, but it doesn't check the ethernet. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hook it up to a hub(switch, something with a link LED). No lit LED=dead.

If running OS9, I have run into some cases where the ethernet extensions became corrupted and I could not get a link. A format and restore was needed to fix what looked like a bad ethernet port.

UPDATE:
I plugged it inot an ethernet hub, and it lit up like a charm. It is my parents brand new eMac, (they just switched). I can hook my iBook up to the cable modem with no problem, but when I hook up the emac -nothing. Settings are the same on both, am I missing something?

Are you resetting the cable modem? Some cable modem need to be power cycled if you're moving them from one computer to another.

Network Utility can also give you the status of your ports.
