I don't remember a recent keynote where someone didn't pill the beans, either Time or Cnet.

I think that's great and am looking forward to something very cool, especially since iSync, iCal, and .Mac have already been revealed. Steve must have something or he wouldn't have allowed that stuff to come out ahead of time.

I was thinking the same thing... but sometimes Jobs like to pull a "And this is all available NOW..." type speach...

Ugh, I have my headphones in hand, and have cleared my schedule...

Should be a good one...

"iSync, iCal, and .Mac"

Not Apple's best work IMHO

My prediction, Stevo sings the praises of Jaguar for a while and rightly so. jaguar is quite good.

I would hope Apple allows for sale iDVD that works with external drives, updated iMovie and some MPEG4 stuff would be nice

Bring on software!

I like to see those realistic expectations. I think an updated iMovie is almost a certainty as it has been a long time and MS is pushing WMM's new features pretty hard. iDVD just makes sense too. I'm sure Steve will talk about the MP4 on mobile phone coup over in Japan and it's ramifications for QT.

I'm also looking forward to an iPhoto update and maybe even an iChat update, although I could see the iChat update being a while yet.

And of course, the exciting 40g iPod and whatever the other thing is that the rumormills have gotten wind of but can't quite make out. Unless it is just mass hypnosis.

To get the Keynote, do you go in before 9 or right at 9? Also, if you go to the link after will it pick it up in progress?

Do you think they have enough servers for this? I've never had luck getting it live before.

Usually 15 minutes before the show starts.

Last time i didnt get the MPEG-4 stream and it was just a horrible blocky quicktime stream.

I'm sure apple has a lot of servers running for this, but still probably not enough.

They generally start the stream about 10-15 mins early showing pans of the audience and Beach Boys music or something else benign. People here are usually so starved for Keynote excitement that we will critique Steve's choice of music.

They have plenty of servers and it works great if you are using a Cable/DSL modem or higher. It's been 3-4 years since I've had trouble watching the stream. The last keynote in MP4 was flawless for me on a DSL line.

keep an eye on this page:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf03/

It will tell you when you can start watching and yes you will be able to connect after it starts.

Now we all need to prey to the Gods of tcp/ip that we get a good connection. I have edged my bets by being on a 10MB/s fibre optic connection ;-)
Nothing to see, move along.

If only your's was the typical experience. Almost no one has ever been able to get a flawless stream.

Even people sitting on 1000mb to an optical backbone normally aren't able to watch the keynote without restarting the stream after numerous and complete audio or video drops. Last time many people had to give up on the MP4 stream altogether and switch back to something that acutally works.

Not that quicktime is a bad technology... but we should be realistic about the historical webcast quality.

Really? That's so bizarre. It used to be that way for me under OS9 a few years ago, but it's been great since X came along. Maybe because I'm in SF, but that doesn't explain my excellent experience from the NY keynote six months ago.

It used to be that I had to lose my router for the stream. You might also change the streaming settings (mess with the port and protocol); it used to help me. Now HTTP and port 80 work fine behind my dLink router.

Go to system prefs-->Quicktime-->Transport setup. Click on auto configure. It will take about 30 secs. See if it can configure.

You shouldn't need any ports open other than an incoming 80, which should work automatically if you can browse the web.

Lucky you! It's bloody freezing here! I'm sat in bed with a big wooly sweater on! I wouldn't be surprised if my iBook starts misting up

I wish they'd change the CD... this is awful!

Gotta love it.

I don't know why but watching these things always gives me that 60's/Calif vibe. I know it's just a computer but there's something more...

I changed nothing to connect, just reloaded a few times from the web page, and eventually one did not get stuck on "Configuring"...

Who knows, nice stream though over DSL.

Does the keynote stream only come in one resolution?

That picture is puny, & the sound could be louder ? [i have everything maxed & would still prefer it a lil' louder]
