There has been plenty of comments lauding the speed and compability of Safari, so I thought I'd start a thread devoted to discussing the stability of this wonderful new browser!

I must say that I am extremely impressed by the stability of Safari thus far. I've been using it as my primary browser for 2 days now and haven't yet had a single crash/freeze (knock on wood! ). I contrast that to Chimera 0.6 12-20-02 build which still tends to crash and burn on me at least once or twice a day on average. The first Chimera 0.6 build was even worse than that! Even OW 4.1 crashes on me periodically, though nowhere near as much as Chimera.

Just to put it through its paces, I opened up every site in my "Bookmarks Bar" ... about 102 different sites in all ... and didn't have a single stability problem! This is by no means all of my bookmarks, but IMHO, with two days of constant usage and the variety of sites I threw at it (real-world sites ... not contrived web standard testing sites) I can confidently say that Safari is the most stable OS X browser ... at least on my machine! Of course, as with anything ... YMMV.

Of course, I probably shouldn't go OT in my own thread ... but I just had to mention that out of those 102 different sites in my Bookmarks bar ... only 3 or 4 had any compatibility problems. And of those, only one was signifcant (couldn't log into a site) ... the rest were minor layout problems.

Safari is simply off the chain!

Same thing here. I've beat Safari to death with multiple windows opened, downloading 100+meg files and it has yet to crash. I love it.

I've actually crashed it once. I surf with a ton of windows open, and I think I was waiting for some cgi to load- I honestly don't remember and I forgot to send in a bug report.

If it doesn't happen again then it really isn't a problem.

I had it spontaneously quit on me once while it was sitting idle in the background. I've also had a couple of pages not render properly (Amazon gold box page) or not properly execute JavaScript (babelfish). Other than that, it's been pretty good.

Now if they would just add tabbed browsing...

Same here, except mine crashed after coming out of sleep mode. I used it for 5 minutes or so and had 2 windows opened and then it quit on me. But other than that, stability has been fine.

I have only one really big problem with it, but that isn't a stability issue - I've never gotten it to crash.

I've crashed once on my Safari. I don't remember the circumstances, but I haven't crashed since so it's all good now.

I've crashed it three times. Always when trying to render a complex page with downloads going on.

I've not been able to find a simple example that will crash it though.

I've not managed to have it lock up and needing to be Force Quit yet. This is a great improvement over any other OS X browser I've used (OmniWeb,IE,Chimera).
