Can I hide one or more user(s) from the users login list?
This way I could hide unnecessary profiles from the public.
I heard about an operation in NetInfo manager.
Thanx - Greg

I think it has something to do with groups and the gid. All normal users that you see in the login list have a gid of 20. I am assuming that by setting this to another value it will hide the user. However, I really wouldn't just go ahead and do this, but hopefully it'll give you something to start on.
There is more information on groups here: macosxhints

This isn't *exactly* what you want, but you can turn off the list of names completely, so someone would have to guess the user name AND password.

Right, that isn't exactly what I need...
Imagine I have 3 "public" profiles that are on the login list, and 2 additional like <Admin> and <Recovery> which would be accessible in "type" mode only by clicking a [more...] button that exists I think.
I think I remember something in NetInfo manager like removig the entry "shadow_name", or a similar operation.

Setting the password to "*" in NetInfo Manager is the only way I know off hand to remove the user from the login list. This will also disable the user's ability to log in so that's not what you want.
I'd be interested to hear if there is another way. I haven't explored this since Jaguar came out so there might be something else that could work.

It's easy. Go to Netinfo Manager, and delete the user's full name. Then they wont appear on the login panel, but you can still use them.

Have you tried SharePoints? You can have people log in under an "invisible" account to access your public files that you don't want in your own account.

Has anyone already tried or used that feature?
I need to hide an admin account to avoid to confuse the regular dummy users, but I haven't done any change to the configs yet.

The login list should have 'Other' listed at the end of your list of users - click that and enter username and password when prompted.
I am fairly sure that 'Other' is added to the list when you have the root account set, but may be it is also shown when you have other users without a full name.
Do you have Other in the list on your login panel?

If you don't have root user set, you can still get the "other user" panel to appear by pressing alt-shift-downarrow then return. There should be a less obscure way to do this!

Or as per this article at MacosxHints, press the down arrow to highlight one of the listed users and the while holding down the Option key, press return.

No, no <other> button...
