I would appreciate it if anyone knows of something that can do this, this seems to one area of incosistancy in Apple's interface. Dialog Boxes don't seem to work the same.

some allow you to type 'S' for save(or return if not defaut), 'D' for don't save, but then apple-. for cancel a throwback for the olden days.

then some nothing works, it would be nice to be able to tab to your choice, especially when they flip the defaut for your protection.

it all seems really wierd, I am used to it , but my PC friends are having difficulties since they are used to tabbing through everything. I have to admit it would be more conveinient.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You don't need any hack, it's an option in the System Preferences.

Under 'Keyboard', select the Full Keyboard Access tab. Change the 'Text boxes and lists only' to 'Any control'. Of course, this occurs everywhere, not just dialog buttons. You probably need to enable the 'Turn on full keyboard access' checkbox for this to work.

Thanks, it seems to work, but say when save' is the default highlighted and I tab to cancel and hit return(I know apple-. will do it) for example...it still saves, it does not make the button hot.

You can't change the default button. However, when you tab to another button, hit space to activate it. Also, you can use Escape to cancel dialogs too.

That spacebar thing seems non-standard--my first impulse is to hit return, but hey, thanks for the tip. That's something that's been bugging me for a while now, too. I hate hunting buttons with the mouse if I can tap a key instead.

Space bar is also used on CDE for Unix systems.
