I am trying to configure my internet settings so that Chimera or Safari can connect to my school's proxy service. The proxy service works great in Netscape but I can't seem to make it work for anyother browser (my fault no doubt). In Netscape I just enter the proxy address into the automatic proxy configuration field and click the little radio button and it works. Under system preference in the network setting I enter the same proxy address, minus the http://, into the web proxy (HTTP) field and try to connect to the site with Safari it gets an error message that it can't connect to the server. Once I turn the proxy setting off it can connect the web page ok but it doesn't connect through the proxy service. Chimera doesn't get an error message or any type of message when the proxy is turned on which leads me to beleive that it doesn't support proxies, but I am assuming that safari does. What am I doing wrong or is auto. proxy config not supported by safari? Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Neither browser supports the automatic proxy configuration protocol. You will need to find the IP address and Port of the proxy rather than the configuration host.

Network control panel does not support automatic proxy settings. Netscape, Mozilla and Chimera do. It is pretty straightfoward in Mozilla (via preferences). Chimera requires to enable proxy via "hidden preferences". Go to the Chimera page and read the instructions. I am working with automatic proxy in Mozilla and Chimera.
