Does anyone have them? I'd love to have the new glassy play-forward-etc buttons found in iMovie 3

I'm aware of that, but there are always people who have it beforehand

iMovie 3 and iDVD 3 look awesome.

I don't even have a DV camera but iMovie 3 makes me want to throw my piggy bank change at it. Sure, I won't have anymore money for food or rent...but hey, I can make cool movies!

I have iPhoto 2 also. I didn't see any buttons that really caught my eye. Personally, I think iPhoto 2 is more like iPhoto 1.2 but that's ok, it's free.

might be off topic, but didn't Jobs at one point in the keynote say that Apple's server farms were going to be "very busy" because they were releasing the downloads that day?

Just confused over that...

I think he said that in reference to Safari.

i think he was talking about safari at that point? he was very clear in that the updated iphoto and imovie would not be avail for d/l until the 25th.

there were a ton of updates to things over the past few days X11 was one of them, naturally Safari, and now Safari beta v51 (so now everyone has downloaded it a second time) the list goes on and on...

For the lucky few who already have iPhoto 2:

Are there any changes to the way iPhoto actually stores the files in the iPhoto Library folder? Can you drag photos out of one film roll and into another?

For example, can your iPhoto library be split into several physical libraries (without using 3rd party tools like Photo Librarian)? I have GB's of images in iPhoto and just launching or quiting iPhoto now takes a painfully long time. Does it now support a shared library (e.g. that would let a family store everyones photos on a single Mac)?

no shared libraries (the only thing i needed in the update). i don't really understand this--a family can't share photo's with iphoto.

OS X is based on having individual users, but pictures are a shared resource. for all users on a machine to, for example, see those pictures from Xmas, you'd have to make a copy for each home folder. nonsense.

A shared music library in iTunes would be nice, too; I was just setting up someone's new eMac over Christmas break, and they were excited to see how easy iTunes was, but were a little bummed that they'd have to rip the family CD collection 3 times (once for each member), or at the very least have three copies taking up space on their HDs.

Um, in the iTunes preference menu, under Advanced it allows you to change the iTunes music folder location, wouldn't that solve your problem?

You _can_ have a shared music library. Ours is on a Snap server. Any mac in our house can access the ONE copy of our ripped CDs. For example, I have my old PowerBook 2400c plugged into our stereo. It mounts the Snap server via a wireless connection and runs iTunes

All iTunes has to have on the local machine is the index and playlists etc. You can leave the mp3s almost anywhere.

Thanks for the info. I had hoped for more flexibily for storing and sharing digital photos right here at home Steve. DUH

BTW I could not care less about iLife. I've never even lauched iMovie or iDVD because <gasp> I don't have or want a video camera. Steve obviously loves this stuff. Look at how much of the keynote was spent going over the details of all the new stuff he can do. And gosh Steve how many times do we have to look at those new 'professionally designed' themes for slide shows and movies?

I have iPhoto2, but I haven't played much with it. Plus, it is technically still beta I believe. I'm sure it will change slightly before the release.

First off it is big. About 100 Meg. It does seem faster than iPhoto 1.2. However I've not tried bogging it down with a large directory.

I used a simple Alias to move my iTunes MP3s to a dedicated partition. And I betcha the playlists can be shared the same way.
