At the heart of Mac OS and the one moused approach is the noun -> verb interaction model. You click something to select it, then choose a menu command to act on it.

Example: Click on a folder once, then select File: Open to see the contents.

Jef Raskin was wrong when he chose to break this pure ideology by introducing the un-mac-like 'Double Click'. He may have thought it fast and convenient, but it was breaking the rules, I tell ya - no matter how many vocal supporters the action might have gained over the years.

Nice piece of satire, I can definitely appreciate it (tho I do tend to be on the other side ot the Tab debate)

In case somebody found new purpose to their life reading this thread, here's Jef Raskin in a more critical mode.

The rest of the page is good reading, too. He's become a proponent of a two- button mouse lately BTW. Personally, I think the contextual menu is an improved version of the noun->verb model.

Now is there any app that mirrors the Menu Bar into the Contextual Menu? Hmm, better go search...

In practice, when you're not dragging an icon, you are about to invoke a menu command - why not pop up the menu immediately? Is one button enough anyway?
