This may have been mentioned before but I didn't see it so here it is (maybe again).

I noticed that iCal is really slow moving between Day/Week/Month views.
By default they have have different window sizes and when you click to change the view it resizes the window which makes it feel slow moving between views.

I tried resizing each of the different views so that the windows are the same size and it feels much faster moving between views.

Anyone else care to try it?

Hah! Great trick-- it does work. I found the easiest way to make the sizes identical was to take two windows from another app (in my case Safari) and place them as a corner guide.

Why don't they just make it so the program redraws its current window with the new selection? Seems logical to me.

Cuz I think Apple has a hardon for drawing -and redrawing- everything on the fly.

I know, but redrawing the entire window seem like a major slow down since each window can have its own size and position.

Yep, I think Apple goes a bit OTT on the effects in some of its iApps where they don't need to.
Would it really bother anybody if the Day/Week/Month views where always the same sized window?

Same kind of thing with iPhoto, seems like a lot of the speed problems are related to the dynamic resizing of the images.

Do people who have Quartz Extreme capable graphics cards experience the same slowdowns? I'll be going from Rage 128 Pro in my Dual 450 to a ATI 8500 this week and will let you know.

I guess it should be possible to write an Aplescript to do this as it is a pain resizing the 3 windows any time you just want to make one of them bigger.

Again, would anyone have really been bothered if the 3 views uses the same window size? The Apple developers must have seen the delay but thought people would be impressed with the functionality.
