I like application bundles. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it refers to applications such as Mail or iPhoto, which appear as a single icon you can drag around, as opposed to a folderful of stuff that needs to be kept together.
Bundles - the way things ought to be!
Just out of curiousity and having a totally different, web- site related deadline approaching, I naturally proceeded to calculate my bundle vs. folder situation in my Applications folder:
80 items (not counting Utilities Folder)
of which
59 Application Bundles
21 Folders
~ 74% Bundles
~ 26% Folders
If you feel statistically inclined, join me:
- View your 'Applications' folder in 'List' mode, sorted by 'Kind'
- Make sure you can see the window status bar ('View' menu: 'Show Status Bar')
- Select a bunch of items and see status bar for the count
- Do the math
Quite a few of my folders actually contained a bundle and a readme, so I proceeded to clean them up before I counted them.
The remaining 26% are mostly carbon apps, but not all - I'll do a detailed study into this matter at a later point.
Hmm, what should I do next...
