Maybe they want keychain support for passwords in forms, like Chimera?

Would this be an alternative to the existing cookies implementation that most forums have (remembering your user id and password so you don't have to login)?

I don't see much use in it except if you're anti-cookies.

Well, most sites don't offer to store credentials in cookies. Forms-based KeyChain integration would provide that option for sites that don't. Also, KeyChain is secure. Cookies are not.

Safari's use of passwords, cookies and the keychain is exatly like Chimera's (from what I hear) and OmniWeb's (which I can vouch for). It might not be possible -- yet -- to have the keychain save names and passwords on the pages themselves. I think that's the point oif having those fields in the pages themselves, actually. Otherwise, you would think Apple would use this system for their own .Mac and support pages. I think they embed the password in a page so you have to input this manually, therefore more securely.

Actually, Safari's behavior is like OmniWeb's, but not like the current Chimera. Chimera can save forms-based credentials into the KeyChain. That's why so many people are clamoring for that feature.
