OK, here's the deal... I wish to create a CD that includes an application that opens a certain kind of file. Then later I want to add more of these files to the CD. Easy right?...
I just can't get it right I have both CD-Rs and CD-RWs. I also have the Toast software. Version 5.2.
What happens is that I just get a second CD mounted with the file I add. Which I suppose works, but when I get say 30 of these files on here... it'll be annoying to have 30 CD's mount. Is there a way to append to the SAME CD? What I mean is right now when I put in the CD, 2 CD's show up on the desktop, each with the different files I added. I just want one CD with that will hold additional files I add.
Do I need to use the Finder? An older version of Toast? Can I do it with the current version of Toast? I can also erase the CD-RW in Disk Utility and then reburn the app and the files but that's really annoying and takes too long
I also have a Superdrive if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any help!

Do you have the full retail version of Toast, with the instruction book? If so, look at pages 124 trough 126. If you don't, let me know, and I'll fill you in. I'm just feeling a little lazy.

You should do this:
1) Click and "press" (like when you do with dock menus to appear) on the "other" button in the toolbar (sort of).
2)Select "ISO 9660"
3)Click on the "Select..." button and then click on the "New CD" button.
4)Before adding files, you should check the "Settings" tab and make adjustments so as to not getting DOS names (8.1 chars). You should experiment with this a while, using a CD-RW.
5) Add your files and burn, selecting "Burn Session"
End of first step.
When you want to continue adding files, you should do the following.
1) Insert the (previously recorded ISO) CD (Doh!)
2) With the ISO 9660 option in Toast, click on "Select" again and then click on "Session".
3)Choose "Import Session" and also check that the imported session will be "Merged".
4) Burn your session.
5) Repeat as desired.
6) Be happy
------------------------
For some strange reason I cannot do this on OS X, but works perfectly well from OS 9.
If you experience the same problem (a sort of Drive reset error while importing), boot in OS 9 and try there.
HTH.

Nai: OK, here's the news... 1. Your method works. I can add files to the same CD. 2. The files won't open... errors I think that's it because that format is a PC CD? Any ideas?
namannik: if you could get it, that would be much appreciated

I don't know exactly what you are trying to do, but it may be because of the format.
With this method, the CDs are formatted as ISO, so that could be the culprit.
Another possibility is that you are specifying a wrong (for your purposes, of course) naming scheme in the "Settings" tab. If I don't remember wrong, there is an option regarding Mac formats. If I were you, I would try:
* CD-ROM XA
* Allow Macintosh names
* Use Apple extensions
If you calify on what you are trying to achieve and the errors you get, I may be able to help you further.

I'm not sure if this is what Nai no Kami already covered, but here goes, directly from the book.
Creating the Initial Backup CD
1 Choose ISO 9660 from the Other pop-up menu.
2 In the ISO 9660 window, click Select.
3 Drag the data of your choice onto the window.
4 In the Select ISO 9660 window, click the Settings tab and choose these settings:
Format- CD-ROM XA
Naming- Choose the naming convention that best suits your situation.
Use Apple Extensions- Turned on.
5 Click Done.
6 Insert a blank CD.
7 Click Record.
8 In the reecord dialog, click Write Session.
Adding Incremental Backups
1 Gather together the same folders or volumes you recorded on the previous session.
2 Click Other in the Toast window and hold down the mouse button.
3 Choose ISO 9660 from the pop-up menu that appears.
4 Drag the data you gathered in step 1 onto the ISO 9660 window.
5 Click Select.
6 Verfy that the the settings in the Settings tab match the settings used when making the initial backup CD.
7 Click Done.
8 Insert the CD to which to add the new information.
9 Click Record.
10 In the Multisession Options dialog box, click Incremental Backup and then click OK.
11 In the Record dialog box, click Write Session.
Well, that's it, pretty much directly from the book, only slightly paraphrased. Hope that helps.
