When i saw Steve demonstrate Keynote, i said to myself, "wow, that's really cool, but i don't need to make presentations." But, then i thought of a great idea. I would use Keynote to build creative slideshows for iDVD.

Last night i made a slideshow in Keynote. I used pictures from a family trip and I used great transitions provided via 'Keynote'. (that cube transition is really cool)

I saved it as a Quicktime Movie
and then dragged it into iDVD

AMAZING. AMAZING AMAZING

It was the best slideshow i've created yet. Thanks to Keynote, i had not only fabulous transitions, but i was able to make funky menu pages (just as you are able to create graphics in a powerpoint presentation)

Has anyone else thought of this?
Or tried it out?

I've been making slideshows for display on our promotional TVs in my business for a while... using PowerPoint -> QuickTime -> Toast -> VCD. Works pretty well.

When I saw the announcement of Keynote, my first thought was that some of those cool new effects will look great on my TVs!

Its great to hear the connection to iDVD is so good.

I'm still two weeks away from doing the next version of our slideshows... so, I haven't tried this new stuff out yet.

One question: Did you say that you can generate DVD menus via Keynote? Is that like setting up links the way you can in PowerPoint and then being able to select them with the DVD arrow and select keys?? If so, that is wayyyy cool... I'll be using that for some custom DVDs real soon!

No, no no
you create a slideshow and turn it into a movie.

I was trying to say that you can create pages of text with Keynote. Example: I can say "this next picture is of my dog" and then the following slide would be of my dog

you coulnd't do this before in iDVD
you could only have pictures

Wow, what a great idea! I hadn't thought of using Keynote in that way, but now I'll definitely give it a try. I don't really have a need to make presentations, but Keynote is so darn cool I have to find some reason to use it anyway!

Check out creating the slideshow in iMovie. You can import pictures and then use transitions, effects, import MP3s etc.

Still, I can see where using Keynote for some transitions and titling would be useful too.

So did you use the canned default export of Sorensen 3 for the intermeddiate into iMovie? Or did you try something else?

I'm just wondering how to minimize quality loss and time overhead, as there has to be some of both going from keynote-> Sorensen3-> MPEG2. Maybe Animation codec, as (AFAIK) it doesn't have any temporal compression?
