What application is used to make those quicktime screen shot movies ( to illustrate new functionality in OSX etc..) .
Apple uses it here for instance:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/theater/sherlock.html

They call it theater.

Take a look at copernicus as well. I found it worked better for movie capture on my G3 than Snapz. It's also cheaper.

To get good movie capture performance with Snapz Pro X, you really need to read the manual, and do things such as set your monitor to Thousands mode, a fairly low FPS, and so on.

copernicus is not faster at movie capturing than Snapz Pro X, but it does impact the performance of the computer less during the video capture, which may make you think it is capturing faster. The reason for this is that Snapz Pro X does real-time capture: you tell it to capture at 10fps, it will capture at 10fps no matter what -- copernicus just captures frames when it is allocated time to do so.

This results in movies that "tear" quite a bit (try recording a movie of dragging a window from side to side), and consistent movie capture rates. I had Snapz Pro X working this way initially, but deemed it unacceptable for proper movie capturing.

There is definitely room for improvement with Snapz Pro X's video capture, however, especially with Quartz Extreme. The main focus of our next release will be improving video capture performance (though there may be an interim bug fix release, if warranted).
