hi!
i’m looking for a way to get my stylewriter 1200 working on an imac 400 running osx 10.2. theoretically it should work on the os side via gimp print, but does the system see a serial printer connected via usb? any suggestions?
btw. what adapter is recommended?

for the price of the adapter you could probably get a new printer....

I have to agree with RevEvs, you're better off just getting a new printer since that would cost almost the same as the adapter. A new printer would be faster and easier to keep supplied with ink cartridges as well.

you guys may be right and i thought about it, but the stylewriter is dirtcheap in printing itself, especially when you only need black. most actual printers out there are just to expensive in printing text.
but maybe someone have a tip for a cheapo textprinter? otherwise i like to try the challenge. what adapter do i need?

I know what you are going through. I have an Epson C80, and the ink costs alone make me want my old Stylewriter II back... (I spend much more in a year on ink then I spent on the printer) I would just dump more black in on the cartridge and let it go. I once spent $15 for a whole year of printing. And I did a TON of text printing.
I don't like how epson won't let you do this AND they have those cards on their printers so no 3rd party will make refills...

great tip. and now the hard part! :-)
does somebody know if os x 10.2 will recognize the stylewriter via keyspan usb adapter and cups/gimp print? it should work, i even have seen a stylewriter 1200 driver for gimp print on google but at the end i’m sceptical
thanks for your help!

oh yes, its like the mobile thing. get it for free and get poor by just using it...
i only need a simple cheap b/w printer for my girlfriends diploma. on her old trusty powerbook 100 it worked and now on the imac she can’t print...
maybe i go for a laserprinter, but its to expensive and large...

Just email them and ask! They even have the user manual in HTML format on the website I linked to.

have seen that already. but printers come a bit short. and i am sceptical because all this theoretically only works with the "middleware" cups/gimp print. but i will try and ask
nevertheless i hope somebody has tried it already...
