I know the Question Mark Folder on startup means your Mac can't find a valid System Folder, but should I be concerned I get a brief (less than a second) QMF before the gray Apple boot screen?

I'm running all the latest updates on a 700 Mhz iMac with no bizarre hacks and no peripherals other than the standard globe speakers, a barely used P.O.S. HP printer and an iPod.

Is that quick flash of the Question Mark Folder normal?

Does it help if you check the startup volume setting in System Preferences?
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

My Powerbook insists on doing that on restarts. It concerns me a little, but since it always starts up as I expect it to, I categorize it as not a problem.

So, not a solution, but you know you're not the only one now.
