Hey, I have some problems compiling gphoto !

After a lot of trouble, I finally got libgphoto installed, but gphoto is failing with this message:

Making install in gphoto2
gcc -g -O2 -g -Wall -Wmissing-declarations -Wmissing-prototypes -g -Wall -o gphoto2 -export-dynamic options.o actions.o foreach.o gp-params.o main.o version.o range.o shell.o -ljpeg -lpthread ../intl/libintl.a -L/usr/local/lib -lgphoto2 -lm
/usr/bin/ld: unknown flag: -export-dynamic

As a bit of a *nix newbie, I have no idea how to fix this.. anyone got any ideas ?

Thanks!

(oh, right, this happens with both gcc 2 and 3, newest devtools installed and 10.2.3)

I'd never heard of gphoto, but you may find that it will not work on OSX if it's looking for Linux drivers for USB devices. Depending on what you're trying to do with it, this may discourage you from trying.

With that said, the problem you're having is that the linker (ld) is being passed a flag (-export-dynamic) that it does not understand.

The solution is to find out what that flag is trying to accomplish, and replace it (if necessary) with one that the OSX compiler will understand. It may very well be that all you need to do is change it to some combination of -dylib -dynamic, and -flat_namespace, but I couldn't say without downloading the source and reading the Makefile and/or the configure script. That is the starting point though.

If you need liker info, do a "man ld" and read up on it.

Well, according to the website, it should work on Mac OS X. libusb compiled just fine.. and I really think/hope it should work

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it more or less right away..!

Well, I did that before posting here, but found nothing about export dynamic, and the whole thing was a tad long..

But thanks a lot for answering, with a little luck I'm getting closer to a solution.. I've also posted my problem on the gphoto mailing list.
