iTunes: adjusting the space between tracks

When playing iTunes seems to 'blend' the next track into the end of the track currently playing. I'd like to have a short duration of 'space' in between tracks (this lacking drives me nuts). Any suggestion please? Thanks.

Turn off the cross-fade option in the Preferences.
