Is it possible to run linux on a PowerMac 8100? In that case, what distribution?

Ooo, a chance to toot my own horn

I did just that recently, using Yellow Dog Linux version 2.3. It is slow as all hell when running a gui like KDE, but in command line mode, its quite usable, and was serving as a basic headless server for a good while in my house.

Here is my blog entry on the install process, feel free to email me with any questions you have about the process. Its pretty painless, though there are a few special tricks you need to do in order to get around the fact that the 8100 doesn't have open firmware.
