Help troubleshooting download problems in Safari/Chimera

	I can't download in Safari or Chimera. In Safari I get a "could not create file" error. Chimera opens the download window, shows the file, and then gives me an ever-running, never-filling progress bar. Omniweb downloads without a problem. I have tried common sense stuff - installing new versions of both browsers, restarting, fixing file permissions - but nothing seems to work. Any of the Unix savvy folk have an idea Pismo 500, 1 Gig RAM, 10.2.3, Earthlink DSL.
