As far as I can tell no.

You can hide slides that you don't want to be shown during a presentation though. Not the same thing I know but thats the best there is atm. Submit a feature request to Apple.

I just got my copy today. There is no method to jump between slides or to link to an outside program such as the DVD player or a web browser. The printout options are odd too. However it imported and export to PP okay. It is also easy to learn.

biggerfoot,

What happens to the transitions when you export to PPT?
Are they the same or do the lose something? As I use PPT for my classes I would like your imput before I buy($100) it as I have PPT for Mac and importing and exporting are fine. I really want to do the cool stuff in Keynote but I really need compatibilty.

Thanks
Bill

I don't think that the PPT export maintains all of the transitions. I believe it changed a couple of them to default transitions when I exported the presentation to PPT (OS X version). I also noticed that Fonts/Formatting looked a tiny bit different in some cases. Really, I thought Keynote performed admirably. It was a joy to use. The export feature is pretty flexible (PDF, QT, PPT)...

Just wanted you to know what I experienced... Incidentally, I want to find a way to put a song to the whole presentation (instead of per slide) if you wanted to export it to a movie. I could export the soundless movie and then lay a track over it, but it would be nice to have that feature within Keynote.

Keynote version 1.5 for $30 here we come... Let the bitching commence. LOL

I made a test presentation with all the different transitions and PP import used PP's default one. Also, the text, photos, and theme imported into PP mirrored to Keynote.

For my lectures, I normally link to other programs so Keynote lets me down in that area. Also, I make my lectures available via PDF on the classroom website and the print options are poor in Keynote and really can not be used for note taking IMO.

For my lectures, I am going to need to keep using PP until things change. However, I am going to use Keynote for other presentations when linking and printing are not needed.

I was able to get the copy for $79. If Apple is able to add more features soon, I will be happy, if not, I wish I would have waited and saved my money.

Linking to different slides and external url-linking is whats missing in Keynote!

What does external url-linking do? Does it stop the flow of the presentation and open a browser?

Yes, I link to outside programs all of the time in PowerPoint. I either use the Hyperlink option if I need to illustrate a website or I use an action button if I need to show a DVD or open up Word or the like. I found I have some type of link in just about every lecture I have.

It opens out the program like it would normally (I always have things queued and ready to go before hand). Once you are done, just click back on PP and off you go. It is very smooth flowing.

Wow, I'm sure keynote is nice, but some of these things are considered very important to some of my friends... I guess some people won't need them, but many do. I'm sure Apple will put them in there, but I hope they don't charge for them. A nice 1.5 update would be nice sometime next month... They are charging $100 for this thing ($79 or $49 for education)
