Because it's not Rendezvous enabled. You have to add a module to Apache to make it advertise itself on Rendezvous.

Ok, new question. I have 2 comps on the same hub running 10.2.3 (not server) and Safari on both and even there the bookmarks do not get shared. Ideas?

It's not for sharing bookmarks. It's for Rendezvous enabled webservers. For example, if you had a Rendezvous enabled network printer, the web-based configuration page would show up in the Rendezvous bookmarks collection.

Probably a stupid question...
I have a webserver running (with the rendezvous mod) and it shows up perfectly in the Safari bookmarks on another machine. But when I try to view it by clicking the bookmark I get a "Bad gateway" error.

Any suggestions?

Just for your reference, OS X 10.2.4 contains mod_rendevous_apple, and a new Apache configuration (it renames your old one), so all 10.2.4 web servers should show up in Safari by default now. It's nice because it shows the main web site and all users' web sites, so mine shows up as "Mike's G3" and "Mike's Website". I will have to check later and see if this is configurable.

I also wonder if Apple paid the guy who developed the original open source mod_rendevous.

The original "open source" mod_rendezvous never had its source posted. Since Apple wrote the Rendezvous code in Mac OS X, iChat, Safari, Printer Sharing, etc. etc., as well as the sample code that Eric Seidel based his module on, I think you can be sure that mod_rendezvous_apple is their own work.

I do wish that the config directives had an option for inserting the Rendezvous name of the computer. As it is, you either have "Mike's Website", or you have to hand-enter custom entries. Since different Macs might have users by the same name, it'd be nice if it said, "Mike's Website on Mike's iBook" or whatever.
