I'm very much a unix newbie, but want to have a look at x11 and do yearn for a nice command-line IRC application.
So I'm trying to install x-chat, without much luck. I can't compile it - I get these errors:
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... no
checking for mawk... no
checking for nawk... no
checking for awk... awk
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... no
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
I'm using 10.2.3. I've searched the fora here for a similar problem but no joy. Any help appreciated...
I'm sure the experienced unix users here are full of joy at all the GUI idiots coming out of the woodwork to try X11 and getting confused at the Call Me Ishmael stage...
