Yeah, I know it's insecure, but I only need it to check the library database. I'm a newbie to the terminal, but hear that you can use telnet on it. How is this done? All I know is the adress which is in the format 'library.ox.ac.uk'. I think I've got a password which applies as well.
Any help appreciated,

At the command prompt, just type:
telnet library.ox.ac.uk

Then follow the on-screen help. Try the telnet man pages for further info, by typing:
man telnet
