Anyone watching Fox's 24 with Keifer Sutherland knows how they've prominently displayed iBooks, Ti's and Quicksilvers with flat panels since last season.

Last night's show had FBI searching through someone's data. As they booted the G4 system, we got a nice glimpse of the gray Apple boot screen along with a loading Mac OS X window followed by some Aqua GUI during some file navigation. Possibly Filemaker?

Yeah. So did Buffy and about a million other shows. Apples way of real-life advertisement, I guess.

They did show the Apple boot logo for a second on 24. I love 24 and I know its supposed to be real time but I question that machines speed because it reached a useable desktop in about 15 seconds. My dual gig QS takes at least 36.

Also of interesting note:

- 24 is the number of hours in a day!

- 24 is 42 backwards, which is part of my nickname!

- 24 divided by 2 is 12, and if multiply that by 2, you get 24 again! Freaky...

Yeah, I saw the show last night too. It showed the most ever of PowerBooks and iBooks. And when booting up it showed the Apple logo from Jaguar, and then when loaded it showed the About This Mac screen with OS X.

And, in the Dock it showed Transmit from Panic!

Oh, and when browsing invoices it was done with the new Search found in OS X 10.2's Finder.

Did anyone notice how the machine showed the Apple Logo booting, then the desktop showed, and then the Loading MacOSX screen (A custom one I think). That seemed weird to me.

Regardless, 24 is my favorite show on earth, and last night solidified it. I thought this season was getting pretty lame, but the last two weeks have gotten me right back into it.

Can anyone post pix from these TV shows? Sightings? Would be nice to compile a visual roster of sightings. Doesn't '24' exist in some kind of Quicktime form somewhere?
Off Topic:
I might just go see 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days' just because the girl in the movie mentions using Adobe Photoshop to redo their kids photos in her photo album.

What was even better is that in the first seasons all the good guys used Macs and all the bad guys used PCs. That's how a lot of people called Nina being mole. She was using a PC in an Mac environment.

Of course in practice I suspect they'd all be using PCs so as to integrate in with all the crappy Visual Basic code they probably have. Of course with X11 Apple might be able to get in via all that TCL, Perl and other code.

Anyway, back to the original point. Watch who has the PC. It is a major clue in the show. (Yeah, the Pres' ex was using a Mac, but it was the President's Mac)

No it isnt. It is Sherry's iBook. She had it in the first season as well. Check the very first episode where she is sitting on the couch surfing.

And what has he done? Apparently he paid to visit a porn site which supposedly featured 'child porn'.

He says he was 'researching' for a book.

I've seen some quite shocking images on a fairly regular basis, in fact they often turn up unsolicited in my email inbox. Also, there are a whole load of 'celebrity' porn sites out there, and most, if not all of those images are fabricated. Perhaps this extends beyond just 'celebrity' porn.

And without a victim, or proof, who is to say whether any of the images are real or not?

My point is that in this country you could go to prison for possessing images that may not even be real. In fact, if you were good enough artist, you could even create some images yourself for which you could be imprisoned. Ideally, I suppose, they could arrest you merely for the intent to create. Ah yes, Thoughtcrime.

It is the stupidity of this situation that must surely lead us to conclude that for there to be a crime, there must be a victim...

I am not in any any way defending those purveyors of child porn, the attraction to which escapes me entirely, but I am shocked by the complete hysteria surrounding the issue here in the UK, which will continue to be used as an excuse to infringe even more into our privacy and personal freedoms.

My sympathies with Mr Townsend, who I will continue to consider innocent, unless there is proof of a crime.

Oh and there are 2 Property (real-estate) programmes on UK TV that use the TiBook prominently, week in, week out, even filming the would be house purhasers looking at potential properties on the TiBook's screen, with the white Apple logo facing the camera,...

During the season 1 finale, though, she downloaded all files and burned a CD on a TiBook in the server room.

Maybe the new theory this year is good people on Dell's, bad people on Macs. There's the Pro Display w/ Jag in Warner's office, and Sherry Palmer's using an iBook And just a note to all MacNN users, please watch 24, it is truly the best show on television. (Especially if you work for Neilson TV ratings)

I noticed on the news that when Pete Townshend (the Who guitarist, arrested for downloading kiddie-porn)'s computers were taken away for investigation, they were G4 Macs.

...so he should be pretty safe then, when the police IT guys boot them up and go "Duh - where's the Start menu ?!"

I totally agree. The whole thing's a witch hunt and yes we do seem to be going down this orwellian road; purely because of the paranoia (largely created by the media) of middle England.

I was thinking this as well, all the so called forensic software I've ever seen (limited I admit), which is apparently what the police forces use, is always Windows based.

First bit of advice is always remove the drive from the host computer, and place it in another PC - can only be downhill from there...

Couldn't they run VPC to use the software, or is forensics software too deeply integrated with the hardware. I know NOTHING about that stuff.

...first rule, apparently, is never boot off the computer you're analysing - I guess in case of any scripts you've got which might erase stuff or whatever.

Wish I could provide a link, but can't due to lack of dilligence in recording interesting bookmarks.

I've been on my edge this entire season. I haven't really seen any Wintel systems this year. This one scene's got an iBook, Tibook and 2 Powerbook G3s.

Here are my shots from my EyeTV. Sorry about the quality but I've got my cable split too many times and didn't bother using a good wire into the EyeTV.

Oh, and my newest theory is that Jack's daughter's boyfriend is Nina's brother or son? Looks just like her. Especially, when he was laying there dying in the wreck.

Note that the data they were accessing was network based, not hardware based. So what you say could only apply if you were doing normal forensics on the server's hard drive. (Of course in the show the data was already erased by the Trojan Horse the detective saw) The reason they didn't follow normal forensic methods was because a nuke is about to explode in 12 hours. There isn't time and they had a guy who was cooperating and whose data it was.

I didn't realize that was Sherry's Mac. Does this mean that her turn as appearing to belong to the conspiracy is just a ruse? Hard to say. I'd never trust her.

Guess, next time, they'll have to either try to make up another 20 seconds of dialog, or have like an awkward pause of silence as they stare at the screen...
