According to Think Secret, Steve decided to give iPhoto and iMovie away at the last minute:

And according to their calculations they lost maybe $17 million in revenues with such a move.
Now is it that bad, if Apple has multiple billions of cash in hand?

Actually, this is the correct forum since it's Apple software. The software forum is for third party software. Personally, I think this forum shoud only be the OS and the software forum should be for all software, Apple and third party.

I agree. I believe it used to be that way - Mac OS X General Discussion and Mac OS X Software. Made more sense that way IMHO.
