me again,
So i noticed last night that since I've upgraded to Jaguar that when I am using headphones with my iMac, the iSub doesn't go mute...It continues to play at it's regular level. This was never a problem when i was running OS 9.
Can anyone shed any light on this / offer a solution? Thanks!!

There is a checkbox in the Sound system preference panel to mute the iSub.

Yes, this is a problem with my G4 Cube/iSub setup as well.
In the earlier Jaguar betas, there used to be an option in the Sounds prefs pane to "Mute iSub when headphones are connected" (or some similar wording)...wonder why Apple got rid of that option.
Hopefully they'll add it back in.

Yes yes... the isub has been a problem since the first version of OS X. Initially it didn't work at all... then with 10.1 it worked but popped hissed etc. and wouldn't mute with headphones. With Jag they fixed the popping etc. but not the headphones issue... still waiting I guess.

I suggest apple do this, as some people use isubs without pro speakers.
They could have an algorithm, as to my knowledge, the computer KNOWS when the pro speaker jack is in use, so it could work like this:
If pro speaker jack connected + headphone jack in use
then mute isub
If only headphone jack in use, don't mute isub
