Hi all,

I've been wondering if there's a third party app that'll let you switch users? Or maybe a sophisticated virtual desktop?

Basically, this is what I want to do.

I do so many things on my new baby (dual 867) such as image editing (photoshop), coding (bbedit), IM (ichat and proteus), email (apple mail), web browsing (safari and chimera), listening to music (itunes..and I have a LOT of music). I mostly do all of this at once which leaves me with a lot of open programs and not a lot of window real-estate. I'm on a 19" monitor and at 1600x1200.

I have come to two conclusions on how to make this an easier experience. One, being able to switch to different user accounts setup for different tasks. Two, being able to boot up with applications being loaded in their respective virtual desktops and in the correct places so all I have to do is switch to another desktop to, say, switch what album I'm listening to or send someone an IM, rather than having to minimize everything or find its respective application in the dock.

This must sound pretty lazy but that's just how I am. ;P

Any help would be appreciated.

User switching w/o logging in: alas not yet possible in OS X. Hopefully coming soonish...?

Virtual desktops: check outCodeTek VirtualDesktop. If you like virtual desktops, this does what it advertises.

There are programs to create and use virtual desktops. Here are two:

CodeTek VirtualDesktop
Frost Virtual Desktops

You can find them both with VersionTracker

Thanks for the quick responses.

Do either of those support loading applications upon login in specific desktops?
