Hey, on my Power Mac G4 on 10.2.3 I get a 30 or so second "Waiting for network initialization" pause when starting up the machine. I have not seen others' that do this, any thoughts?

Your network is set up screwy. Sounds like it is waiting for a DHCP reply. How do you connect to the internet?

Go to network settings and look for network port settings and disable those network adapters you dont use (modem!, airport!)

reboot and see if it helps!

I don't know that I agree that my network is messed up. I'm using Manual IP settings and I have 2 other OS X machines that do not have a problem on this network.

Any other ideas?

I had exactly the same problem on my Pb667DVI. This was when my network at home was indeed screwed up...

I connected through belkin 4way gateway to my broadband modem (set top box). The belkin gateway is supposed to give out IPs, but my powerbook did not get one.
When connecting directly to the modem, everything is just fine...same settings, using DHCP.

Two other win computers going through the same gateway worked just fine.

I have now ordered the new airport extreme....so I don't care anymore...sort of gave up on that one.

Oh, I didn't see the second post. I just tried disabling FireWire (the only other adapter that's there). That did seem to help this time, I'll come back if it doesn't fix it, I'll let you know, but THANKS! It seemed to work!
