Sometimes on my iBook after being a sleep I seem to have lost my ipaddress to the internet. If I reboot everything is fine.

My question is what is the easiest way to renew my ip address from the dhcp server. On a Windoze box they have a tool called ipconfig /renew.

Thanks in advance.

There's probably a command-line instruction to do it, but one way I've done this when needed is to use the Network Preferences panel. Go to the TCP/IP tab. The 'Configure' pulldown menu should say 'Using DHCP'. Switch it to manual, apply the changes, and then change it back to DHCP. This should reset things.

... If it doesn't then you probably have too strict firewall rules. I had the same problem, had to reboot to get a new IP. Turned out to be my firewall not allowing traffic from the DHCP server (port 68).

Enter:

sudo ifconfig en0 down

// enter password

sudo ifconfig en0 up

Nah folks its even easier than that...

In the form field after DHCP Client ID, in your network control panel simply put three spaces ( hit the space bar three times ) and then hit save.

The IP will drop and renew immediately.

Wow! That's a great tip. Works with just one space for me. If this is your own discovery, you should pass it around more. Couldn't find it at osXhints.com

I just switched to anyother form of connection (say dial up) apply and then go back to DHCP and reapply.

Yeah, I do i the way you do, juanvaldez...I just select Automatic, then reselect the one I usually use.
