Long story short:

I moved an account "joeuser" from 10.1.5 on an old disk to an account with the same name "joeuser" on a HD with 10.2 on it. I did a UNIX command: % sudo chown -R joeuser /Users/joeuser in order to make sure the permissions were all still correct. Things worked okay for a while. But then I noticed in:

System Prefs->Internet->Web->Download (Choose)

that all my personal folders for my account had little superimposed minus signs (as if they were for someone else's account) on them. Is there any way to fix this?

   What do you get when you execute

ls -l <filename>

on one of these problem files?

A computer scientist is someone who, when told to "Go to Hell", sees the
"go to", rather than the destination, as harmful.

Whoops!

The problem was that System Prefs was pointed at the account on the OLD hard drive!
