When I log out and restart OS X it restarts into my desktop without asking for a pass....which means that anyone can access my stuff without needing my password which seems to make it pointless...is there anyway to prevents this?

this is the default setting for OSX client.

it sets the account that was created during setup to auto login on boot.

go into system prefs -> accounts and untick the box for "log in automaticly as ..."

it should bring you to the login box on startup after that
