Got two Macs on OSX with an ethernet cable as server-client arrangement, and would like to access the address book on server from the client side. All files and directories on the server are visible, so it seems like there would be a way to open address book, maybe provided it is not already open on the host. Or else some kinda workaround?

It depends on where the Address Book database is located relative to where you're working. It needs to be in your current home directory. If you are running OS X Server and your home directory is off the server you should have no problem. Otherwise, you can create a symbolic link to the directory on the server with the Address Book directory and replace it with the one in your Library. Of course you will have to have your server partition with this directory on it mounted for it to work.

Just opening the .app on the server won't work, though. It all depends on the database.
