Since moving to safari I have seen my download speeds go from 38.5 kilobytes per second to about 40 kilobytes per second. I couldn't be happier, but why does this happen? Is it maybe just less accurate at calculating the transfer rate than all my other apps? Does it do something to make transfers more efficient? Not even broadband optimizer gave me a performance increase like this.

I got the same feeling that my downloads are going faster... maybe it uses download acceleration?

Safari must be using some sort of acceleration... My downloads have gone from a high of about 1 Mb/s to several Mb/s when downloading stuff from Apple. Absolutely amazing, though I feel bad for other people on my network!

I agree also. Safari is turning out to be a nice little browser. Once it gets tabs and faster flash support it will be perfect. Speed wise, it feels faster than anything out there.

Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

Yeah I have been really happy with the Safari beta so far. The download speeds on my T1 connection at school still don't match my roommate's PC, but they are getting there. And yes I agree it is faster the Internet Explorer, which I didn't like as a browser anyway, go Apple.

I'm definately noticing the difference also. Very nice web browser.
Another cool thing is Safari is definately faster then Internet Explorer on my PC when it comes to both donwloading and surfing the web. Very impressive.

oddly enough I've noticed it's faster uploading too.
I have been sending in fan art to
http://fanart.terminator3.com/
and noticed a real change in speed when I switched over to Safari.

Almost all of my downloads using Safari max out my 'net connection. The full 120 Kb/s.

From DSLReports' speed test...
First in Chimera:
2003-01-25 11:48:54 EST: 1986 / 361
Your download speed : 1986512 bps, or 1986 kbps.
A 242.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 361097 bps, or 361 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Now Safari:
2003-01-25 11:49:57 EST: 2115 / 360
Your download speed : 2115068 bps , or 2115 kbps .
A 258.1 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 360555 bps , or 360 kbps .
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
Nice.
