I have configured shared automounted AFS home directories within Workgroup Manager for my network users. The user information is stored in Open Directory, and the network directory settings show up in Workgroup Manager as "afp://<server>/Homes/<home_dir>". The Homes share point is set to mount dynamically in "/Network/Servers". So far, so good.

The problem is this: When a user logs into a client machine and clicks on the Home button in the Finder's toolbar, the Finder jumps to "/Mac OS X/private/Network/Servers/<server>/Homes/<home_dir>". I don't want the users to see the "/Mac OS X/private" path segment.

Is this a configuration error on my part? I really want the home directories to show up simply as "/Network/Servers/<server>/Homes/<home_dir>".

Many thanks for any help!

J Morgan

(Replying to my own post, in case somebody is searching the forums someday with the same question I had...) After calling Apple technical support, it appears that other folks are seeing the same problem--even at Apple. So the problem has been logged as a 10.2 bug. It's merely a cosmetic issue (everything else works normally, eg, the home directory is accessible), but nevertheless it'll nice when the engineers fix it. :-)
