I downloaded X11 and Gimp, can anyone tell me how to make Gimp run? I've looked in places and have found no help, so how do I do it? there seems to be no help section with the X11 program/.
edit: BTW, I am moving this thread to the UNIX forum. Thanks.

Did you install them both first? There is a double clickable installer for XDarwin, but to install Gimp, I suggest that you install Fink first, then use Fink to install Gimp.

You need the GTK library aswell. Must admit that I've had better luck with the OpenDarwin version of GIMP - ran out of patience with Fink: removed it and reinstalled X11, GTK library and then GIMP itself.
My command line to get it running without black images is "/usr/local/bin/gimp-1.2 --no-shm --no-xshm".
