I downloaded a .zip file onto my desktop, and after I unzipped it, I wanted to remove it. I get a popup box telling me the file is being used. So I log out, log in again, still no luck. Restart, still no luck. I opened the file in a text editor, removed all content, checked the ownership and permissions... What can i do? I have an icon on my desktop! What about my clean desktop policy?

You could try opening the Terminal and do it with the command line, using 'sudo rm [filename]'. I've done this a few times when I find awkward files.
