No doubt this has been covered before, but I am a lazy, lazy man and couldn't find it easily so...

Can someone tell me if it's possible to install developer's tools for Jaguar without re-installing the whole system? I'm using 10.2.3 (base system) and wanted to try out FFmpeg which seems to require developer's tools. I really don't want to reinstall. Any other option????

Thanks,
Eric

You can download the latest version for free from ADC... though that won't be any help if you're on narrowband.

I'm on broadband, but not an ADC member so I'm not sure how I'll get it. Will the latest version be able to install on top of the existing Jaguar install?

ADC Memberships are free. Go and sign up so you can download.

Signing up for an ADC Online membership -which is all you need for the Developer Tools- is free. You can also get TCP/IP over FireWire this way, if you're interested in that.

And yep; the latest Developer Tools will install over an existing Jaguar. I think you need 10.2.2 at least to make it work, but you said you were running 10.2.3, so that's not a problem.

Even over broadband, though, this one may take a while. And particularly watch out if you're on satellite broadband; for some reason Apple's servers are flaky with satellite connections.

I have a similar question. Will the version of developer tools that came with Jaguar cds (10.2) install on 10.2.3 or is a newer version required? I.e. will I break something in 10.2.3 by installing from the older 10.2 cd?

Thanks,
Scott
